Early Words Page 1

 Early Words

1. Test child using Early Words Checklist.

2. Go over “Early Word Pictures”,  on the first day.  These pictures are the prompts for the sentences.

3. Using cards start testing.

4. When the child gets to a word they don't know, hold up the card and get child to say the word on the card four times.

5. Go to sheets where the words are all mixed up, and they read the words.  The only sheet that is glued into their folder would be the first sheet, which you would use if they didn't know the words “Mum” or “is”.  You write their name in the blank space.  Apart from that you just read the words on master sheets, the word they have stopped on is at the top of each section of words.

6. Get the correct worksheet.  Read it with the child, then get the child to fill the word in on each line.

7. Glue the work sheet in an individual folder for the child to have at the end of the course.

8. Print a certificate, which can be presented maybe in class or at an assembly.

  2. Kia ora Karen, I deleted my previous comment due to poor typing and proofreading skills. Here is an error free version: Congratulations Karen on your presentation to your colleagues re: the Early Words programme. The feedback I received was very positive. You were organised, confident in your presentation and shared a thorough understanding of your role when administering the programme. A handout is always good following a presentation, as it allows people to have a point of reference to refer back to. Thank you for sharing.
